Who will the antichrist be fighting at Armageddon?

“And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.”

Revelation 16:16

Did you know in the entire Bible, Old and New Testaments, the word Armageddon is only named once? As one of the yet to be fulfilled, very important prophecies God made to us, He only names it one time! If you are a student of Bible prophecy or just an action-packed movie fanatic, you know the Battle of Armageddon is where Jesus Christ Returns to earth to defeat Satan and his minions, the antichrist and the false prophet, and finally set up his 1,000-year Millennial reign of peace and justice on the earth.

“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he (Jesus Christ) that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called the Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.”

Revelation 19:11-15

The Bible is VERY clear! When Christ Returns at the Battle of Armageddon exactly as foretold 2,000 years ago, He is not coming in Peace! He is coming to finally defeat the anti-christ, the false prophet and their armies of the world who will have aligned in their Satanic backed hatred of the Jews with the goal to finally eradicate them from the world thus fulfilling Satan’s desire to prove God wrong. He wants the world to know God has lied to them about His Promises made to Abraham and his offspring (the Jews). In doing so, Satan can then claim personal immunity from the sin he has inflicted on the world for thousands of years. But guess what? God never lies nor breaks His Promises.

“And I saw the beast (anti-christ), and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him (Jesus Christ) that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the beast (anti-christ), and the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.”

Revelation 19:19-20

After reading the Scriptures above, you might be asking a couple of questions. Why did the antichrist require all his armies totaling hundreds of millions of soldiers to defeat the Jews in a very small piece of land (Israel)? Where did his armies come from? Most importantly, why would the entire world then living under the reign of the anti-christ be so filled with hatred for a very small group of people totaling 10-20 million?

First of all, we know from Revelation 6:2 “And I saw and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow (but no arrows); and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.” In other words, the anti-christ will appear on the global stage on a white horse having a bow BUT no arrows. This means he will conquer the world not by force but by peaceful rhetoric and agreements.

Secondly, the anti-christ will be recognized specifically for his “peace covenant” in Daniel 9:27. “And he shall confirm the (peace) covenant with many for one week (7 years): and in the midst of the weeks (after 3 1/2 years) he shall cause the sacrifice and oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it (- the 3rd rebuilt Jewish Temple) desolate, even until the consummation (end of the 7 year Tribulation period at Armageddon), and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” Interestingly, the word “confirm” has an original meaning to “strengthen”, not “create”, in the original Greek. In other words, it appears there will be a peace agreement in place, but it will take a charismatic leader to get the Jews in Israel and “many” to accept it as legit.

Finally, the anti-christ will appear on the world stage and finally bring peace to the Mideast through his covenant between Israel and “many”. You would think, by coupling this with his one-world government, his one-world economy, and his one world religion, peace and prosperity would finally come upon the earth which the global socialist elites have advocated for years. But guess what?

During this 7-year period, the world will also endure immeasurable harm and destruction when God pours out His wrath with His punishment on the world because of their unrepentant sins (What’s worse? 7 Seals, 7 Trumpets or 7 Vials?). As Jesus said in His Olivet Discourse (Matthew 24:21-22):

“For then shall be great tribulation, SUCH AS WAS NOT SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE WORLD TO THIS TIME, NO, NOR EVER SHALL BE (capitals mine).”

In other words, what the anti-christ brings to this world will NOT be what everyone thinks he will accomplish! Instead, by reading the Bible we can see how the world will react once he is in power, but the pain, suffering and tribulation continues:

  • While 10 kingdoms (countries) will give him their power, he will have to “subdue” 3 of them who apparently do not want him ruling them. “And the ten horns out of this kingdom (are) ten kings (that) shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he SHALL SUBDUE THREE KINGS (capitals mine).” Daniel 7:24.

  • The one world religion, started by his buddy, the false prophet, will also be destroyed by others (Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, Hindus??) who will rebel against his wanting to be worshipped as their god. “And the ten horns (kingdoms) which thou sawest upon the beast (the anti-christ), THESE SHALL HATE THE WHORE (the false world religion -capitals mine), and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.” Revelation 17:16.

  • When the anti-christ is in Jerusalem trying to finally eradicate the Jews, a large army of 200 million soldiers FROM THE EAST will march to Jerusalem, not to help eradicate the Jews but to fight the anti-christ! “And the number of the army of the horsemen (were) two hundred thousand thousand (200 million!): and I heard the number of them.” Revelation 9:16. “And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates: and the water thereof was dried up, THAT THE WAY OF THE KINGS OF THE EAST MIGHT BE PREPARED (capitals mine).” Revelation 16:12

You might ask, “What’s going on here? I thought the anti-christ ruled the entire world. Why would some (probably from the east) who previously had accepted him as their global ruler now want to fight to dethrone him?” Remember, the seven-year Tribulation period will be the most devastating time period in the history of the world. Between the 7 trumpets, the 7 vials and the 7 bowl judgements one half of the world’s population will die. Couple that with wars, rumors of wars, famine, pestilences, earthquakes in diverse places, etc. and I believe you can understand why many people will recognize the antichrist is not who they thought he would be.  I believe noted Biblical scholar John F. Walvoord described it succinctly in Tim LaHaye’s Prophecy Study Bible:

“Now from the same source of power (Satan) that put this world government together comes the influence to gather the armies of the world to challenge this world government. These armies are led to converge upon the Holy Land to fight for superiority. However, it is apparent that the satanic purpose of the Battle of Armageddon is to gather the military might of the world to contend against the armies from heaven.”

At this time, Jesus will Return and these warring armies will merge with each other to fight Him, who the entire world will recognize as Jesus Christ, knowing their punishment is coming. When these armies aligned against the antichrist and the armies of the antichrist see Jesus coming from Heaven, they will join forces to fight Him. Of course, we know from the story of Armageddon the outcome of this battle.

“And the remnant were slain with the sword of him (Jesus) that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.”

Revelation 19:21

It is so comforting to know through the Word of God the end to the story of Armageddon! The antichrist and false prophet will be thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone. Satan will be thrown into the bottomless pit for Jesus’s 1,000-year Reign on earth. And we believers will reign with Jesus during this time of peace of earth. If you don’t believe in Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, you will have to go through the horrors of the Tribulation or die prior to that time knowing your ultimate destiny will be with the antichrist, false prophet and Satan in hell for eternity. This should not scare you knowing your personal choice. However, it is incumbent for each and every one of us to do what Jesus told us clearly to do and that is to “…therefore comfort one another with these words.” This should not scare you or your friends and family but comfort you in knowing the Paradise that awaits for all Believers.

May God Bless you as you tell others of His message to us!
