Is the Israel/Hezbollah War in Lebanon prophesied in the Bible?

File:12 Tribes of Israel Map.svg

“Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, set thy face against Zidon (Sidon) and prophesy against it, And say, Thus saith the LORD God; Behold, I am against thee, O Zidon; and I will be glorified in the midst of thee: and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall have executed judgements in her, and shall be sanctified  in her. For I shall send into her pestilence, and blood into her streets; and the wounded shall be judged in the midst of her by the sword upon her on every side; and they shall know that I am the LORD.”

Ezekiel 28:20-23

Most of us are very familiar with the various wars prophesied in the Bible to occur in the last days (“…ye shall hears of wars and rumours of wars” – Matthew 24:6 and “For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom…” – Matthew 24:7). The most commonly specific wars mentioned are, of course, Armageddon (Revelation 16), the War of Gog and Magog (Ezekiel 38 & 39) and the War of Psalm 83. But, have you ever heard of the war of Sidon?

Sidon is a town located on the Mediterranean coast in today’s Lebanon. Looking at the map above you can see it (with some difficulty) at the very top, just north of Tyre. What struck me while researching this article is that Sidon (and Tyre) are in the ancient land of Asher, land given to one of the twelve sons/tribes of Israel. To be fair while Sidon was in the land of Asher, and considered part of ancient Israel, it was never completely subdued by the Israelis. In other words, today’s Lebanon is in the land God originally Promised to Israel but was never totally controlled by the Jews!

“Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.”

Matthew 15:21

Even Jesus went into Sidon to teach, in the land God had already given to the Jews. And yes, the Jews were later dispersed throughout the world by the Romans in 70 A.D. due to their rebellion against God. For nearly 2,000 years they were out of the land God had Promised to them but just as God told them, this was the Land He gave them forever and as promised, He brought them back and made them a prosperous nation beginning in 1948 when Israel proclaimed, with the consent of the United Nations, their national independence.

Sidon is today the third largest city in Lebanon and is also considered one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world. So, what does this have to do with the war between Hezbollah and Israel? If you look at the map below you may be as surprised as I was. First of all, I apologize for the poor quality of the map. Secondly, this shows Israeli air strikes on various Hezbollah targets in Lebanon as of October 2024. Of course since then there have been many, many more. Third, look at the sites being bombed/attacked. The vast majority are just below Sidon which was part of the original land given to the Jews! Are the Jews, with God’s help and direction taking back their God-given land? Finally, while a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel was agreed to a few days ago, it has already been broken as Hezbollah continues to attack Israeli targets. Does this foretell a future war again and devastation? I believe, yes!

A map showing aerial attacks launched on Lebanon and Israeli between 18:00 GMT on 1 October and 18:00 GMT on 2 October. Most of the Israeli strikes have been on locations in southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah attacks have mostly been on northern Israel.

Further evidence of what may be coming is what God said in the opening verses, “Thus saith the LORD God; Behold, I am against thee, O Zidon”. Like always, God responds with righteous anger and wrath, it is only a matter of His timing before He reacts to those seeking to destroy His people.  Since archeological evidence has shown Sidon is the birthplace of the infamous anti-Jewish harlot Jezebel and their chief god was the god Baal (Child Sacrifice to the god of Baal), I believe you will agree since their total destruction has never occurred in history as prophesied in the Bible, there is clear evidence this war may very well be the one that ultimately fulfills God’s Promise.

While I don’t wish any harm to anyone, I respect the will and plan our Heavenly Father has articulated  to us, especially the fact He said that as direct result of His action “…and they shall know that I am the LORD.” He has a purpose and ultimately people will recognize God exists and He wants all to come to Him in repentance and acceptance of Jesus as their Saviour. Until we see if this is indeed another yet to be fulfilled prophesy from the Bible, please continue to pray for peace in Jerusalem and don’t forget to do what Jesus told us to do and that is to “…therefore comfort one another with these words.”

May God Bless you as we await His soon Return!
