“On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram (Abraham) and said, “To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt (Nile) to the great river, the Euphrates – (and) the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites.”
Genesis 15:18-21
I recently published an article regarding the lesser-known war of Sidon (Is the Israel/Hezbollah War in Lebanon prophesied in the Bible?) prophesied to occur in the Bible. My thoughts were since the town of Sidon is in Lebanon, could the conflict today between Israel and Hezbollah tell us what the Bible has already told us would happen. While researching it I discovered that if you look at the map above of the land given by God directly to Abraham and his descendants FOREVER, I saw the obvious! Ancient Israel also comprises other countries today known as Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and parts of Egypt.
After publishing that post I was reading a news article from an Israel news feed and saw that Syrian rebels who have been fighting the Assad regime in Syria since 2011 have very quickly overturned the Assad regime and taken control of Syria. Assad and his family have fled to Russia and Iran and Russia have totally lost their armies in Syria. Why is is this so important today?
First of all, we must remember there has been a civil war going on in Syria for years in which Assad has already killed over one half a million of his own people. Upon further study I learned that Russia has been a major supporter of Assad since the beginning AND Turkey has supported the Sunni rebels who seek to overthrow the Assad regime. Of course, Hezbollah in Lebanon is a proxy of Iran and there are smaller groups in Syria also supported by Iran.
Is this strange that on the northern border of today’s Israel (Lebanon and Syria) the primary three involved in the upcoming War of Gog and Magog are already involved in warfare just north of Israel? The real question I have is WHICH Israel will be invaded by Russia, Turkey and Iran? The Israel given to Abraham and his descendants or the modern-day Israel that has existed since 1948?
Let’s step back a moment and look at what the Bible says about all of this.
First – The land given to Jacob (Israel), promised to Abraham by God – Genesis 26:3-5
- Book of Genesis was written by Moses (3,500 years ago) in the 15th century B.C.
- Jacob’s twelve sons form the basis for the twelve tribes of Israel, listed in the map above, from oldest to youngest: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph, and Benjamin.
- Joseph, despite being the second-youngest son, received double the inheritance of his brothers, was treated as if he were the firstborn son instead of Reuben, and so his tribe was later split into two tribes, named after his sons, Ephraim and Manasseh
- The 12 tribes of Jacob were in existence as written in the Book of Joshua which was written between 1200 -1050 B.C (approximately 3,000 to 3,200 years ago).
- Kingdom of Israel (the northern 10 kingdoms, according to scriptural accounts, existed from 930 to 722 BCE roughly 3,000 years ago)
- Kingdom of Judah (the southern 2 kingdoms, according to scriptural accounts, existed from 930 to 586 BCE roughly 3,000 years ago)
Second – the 12 sons/tribes of Jacob (oldest to youngest) had exact boundaries of the land given to each of them
- Book of Joshua was written by Joshua and others between 1405 – 1380 B.C. (3,400 years ago)
- Exact boundaries and lands given to each tribe are listed in Joshua 15-19
Third – The Destruction of Damascus
- Book of Isaiah was written by Isaiah in 8th century B.C (2,800 years ago)
- In chapter 17 it describes the complete destruction of Damascus, NEVER to be occupied again
- The Destruction of Damascus Revisited
Destruction of Elam/western Iran
- Book of Jeremiah was written by Jeremiah in 629-585 B.C. (2,600 years ago).
- Jeremiah 49:35-39
- Could the prophesied destruction of Elam/Iran be the result of today’s war in Israel?
War of Gog and Magog in the latter days promised to Ezekiel – Ezekiel 38 & 39
- Book of Ezekiel written by Ezekiel in 593-571 B.C. (2,600 years ago)
- The War of Gog and Magog
So, again what does this all mean?
Take the chronology of the Bible. Approximately 3,500 years ago God Promised to Abraham and his descendants the land of Israel FOREVER. Approximately 3,400 years ago each of the 12 sons of Jacob (Israel) received the exact boundaries of the land and cities given to them. 2,800 years ago the latter-day total destruction of Damascus in Syria was prophesied and has yet never happened. 2,600 years ago the destruction and dispersion of Persians living in western Iran (Elam) was prophesied. Again, this has never yet happened. Also, 2,600 years ago the coming War of Gog and Magog was prophesied. Most importantly to keep in mind is that at the time of these prophecies, it was the ancient borders of Israel that existed, not modern-day Israel’s borders!
“For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”
Revelation 22:18-19
I take very seriously what I write and publish in www.comfortone another.com. In all honesty, I have never read anything alluding to the content of this subject and yet I feel the Lord has given me the instructions and guidance as to what to explain as best I can. Why do I feel the War of Gog and Magog may actually occur, or at least start, in today’s Syria, and perhaps northern Israel?
Certain events have transpired in just the past few weeks which I believe could very well lead to the War of Gog and Magog very soon and it could very well begin in Syria. If I may, please let me list them in quick order.
As noted above, Russia supports Syria. Turkey supports the Sunni rebels (an offshoot of ISIS and al-Qaeda) fighting Syria’s Assad. Iran has been backing other groups in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq fighting for their position. Russia wants dominion they had under the USSR; Turkey wants to rebuild the Ottoman Turkish Empire; and, Iran would love to reconstitute the Persian Empire.
“After many days thou (Israel) shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people; against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but is brought forth out of the nations, and they (the Jews) shall dwell safely all of them. Thou (Russia, Iran, Turkey, et.al.) shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.”
Ezekiel 38:8-9
With the capturing defeat of the Assad regime in Syria, Russia has instructed their people to flee Syria asap. The Russians have even relocated their aircraft carrier in the Syrian port city back to Russia to keep the rebels from taking it. They also have an airbase today in Syria which the Russians have left. In other words, Russia has abandoned Syria. However, to fulfill His prophecy, God must put hooks in the “jaw” of Russia and bring them back to Syria:
“And say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and swords:”
Ezekiel 38:3-4.
Israel has expressed concern of the Assad regime being overtaken by the rebels. They have already witnessed fights happening on the Syrian-Israel border and have decimated 80% the Assad regime’s military to keep it out of the hands of the rebels. Ultimately though it won’t be the Israeli’s that will defeat this coalition of nations. It will be God Himself. One way He will do it is by having these adversaries turn against each other!
“And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord God: EVERY MAN’S SWORD SHALL BE AGAINST HIS BROTHER (capitals mine). And I will plead against him with pestilence and blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire and brimstone.”
Ezekiel 38:21-22
With the battle waging in Syria would anyone be surprised if some sort of cataclysmic event were to level Damascus so it would never again be occupied? This might be an earthquake of enormous strength, or a nuclear bomb fired by Russia, Turkey or even Iran. All have or are very close to having nuclear warheads. Remember this has never occurred in Damascus, one of the oldest continually lived cities in the world.
“The burden of Damascus, Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.”
Isaiah 17:1
“Damascus has become helpless; She has turned away to flee, And panic has gripped her; Distress and pangs have taken hold of her Like a woman in childbirth. How the city of praise has not been deserted, the town of my joy! Therefore, her young men will fall in her streets, And all the men of war will be silenced in that day,” declares the Lord of hosts. “I will set fire to the wall of Damascus, and it will devour the fortified towers of Ben-hadad.”
Jeremiah 49:24-27
With Russia’s continuing war in Ukraine and Iran’s decimation of Hamas and Hezbollah by Israel the resources required to regain some control over Syria is more difficult, it very well could create a need for all three – Russia, Turkey, and Iran – to come together. Unfortunately, NOT ONE COUNTRY WILL COME TO THE AID OF ISRAEL!!
“Sheba, and Dedan (Saudi Arabia), and the merchants of Tarshish (U.S.A., UK, Canada?), with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee (Gog), Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take away a great spoil?
Ezekiel 38:13
While the info above is somewhat long winded, the purpose of this post with what the Bible has told us, may very well point to the War of Gog and Magog actually starting (and perhaps finishing) in Syria, also known as ancient Israel. Let’s see what the Bible says:
“Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the Lord.”
Ezekiel 38:23
While some may dispute this commentary, the fact remains the stage is set for a prophesied war amongst named nations from the north attacking Israel (whether ancient or modern borders) and they will be totally defeated by God Himself with 5 of every 6 invading soldiers dying on the mountains of Israel. By God fulfilling this prophecy, the world will know that He is the Lord!
As I said, I felt compelled by the Holy Spirit to pass along these words in light of the current events happening in the Mideast which I believe are a forerunner of things SOON to occur, things we should all be watching for. If you agree, please share this post with your friends and families so we can all do what Jesus told us to do and that is to “…therefore comfort one another with these words.”
May God Bless you as we await His SOON return!
Thank you brother!
Your comment about “create a need for all three – Russia, Turkey, and Iran – to come together” rings true. That country is geopolitically vital to the region, so the need for stability and control could make this alliance a reality. The Jews are destined and commanded to one day reoccupy the borders as described by God in Joshua. The “when” is what we are discussing. Great discussion Brother!
