“And there shall be SIGNS (capitals mine) in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.”
Starting tonight, a massive meteor shower, should be visible in the heavens. It is scheduled to last from August 11-13, 2017. A few days later (on August 21, 2017), those living in certain parts of the U.S. will see the first total solar eclipse cross this country since June 8, 1918, nearly 100 years ago! For those of us living in the Nashville area, we are in one of the prime spots to witness (with protective eyewear, of course!) a 100% darkening of the sun for approximately 2 minutes and 30 seconds. The local newspaper has said over 1 million people are coming to Nashville just to see this rare celestial event. Of course a 100% solar eclipse only happens when the moon (at its closest position to the earth) gets in between the sun and the earth, blocking the suns rays from hitting the earth. Because of the speed of the earth’s rotation and the rotation of the moon around the earth, the moon’s intercession is in a straight line between the sun and the earth and blocks the sunlight for a very short period of time over a relatively small geographical area.
Many have speculated on the potential negative Biblical outcome of this event (which I won’t). Rather, I want to remind you of yet another celestial event that will happen a month later on September 23, 2017. This is an event we are told about in the Book of Revelation that is prophesied to occur in the Last Days:
“And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman (Israel) clothed with the sun (God), and the moon (Satan) under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars (12 sons of Israel): and she being with child (the Messiah) cried, travailing in birth, and pained (waiting) to be delivered.”
Most prophetic scholars have long interpreted the woman to be Israel in the Last Days with the crown of twelve stars (the 12 sons of Israel) giving birth to the Messiah, while clothed with the Sun (God) and the moon (Satan) under her feet. Amazingly, this will come to us as a sign in the heavens! Remember what God said to Satan in Genesis 3:15? “I will put enmity between thee and the woman (Israel), and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt BRUISE HIS HEEL (capitals mine).” God prophesied that Satan would be under the foot of the Messiah of Israel! There have been numerous alignments of the sun, moon and stars long recognized as matching this description with one major exception! There has never, ever been twelve stars in her crown, only nine! For the first time EVER in world history, three planets (which will look like stars in the heavens) will join the nine stars on September 23, 2017 above her head possibly fulfilling the Biblical prophecy of twelve stars being in her crown!
Why, you might ask, is this important? In the Book of Genesis, in the very first chapter, as God was creating the world He said:
“And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be FOR SIGNS (capitals mine), and for seasons, and for days, and years.”
While the sun, moon and stars were made to do what we expect them to do, like light up the day and give us light at night, God also put them there to be signs for us to observe and, with God-given knowledge, understand what He is telling us. Remember, what the three wise men said to King Herod when they saw the star in Bethlehem? “Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews (Jesus)? for we have seen his STAR (capitals mine) in the east, and are come to worship him.” – Matthew 2:2. God put a star in the heavens which directed three wise men from the east to search out and find Jesus in order to worship Him!
So, here we have numerous examples of God speaking to us via signs in the stars, sun and moon in the heavens. I do not believe it is my place to give you dates and times for things to happen as prophesied in the Bible. I do believe, however, it is my responsibility to warn you of those things the Bible says WILL happen in the Last Days so we may all remain vigilante and seek redemption. Only because my studies have uncovered certain things that MAY have Biblical impact on our lives do I feel I must forewarn you so that you will be prepared.
On August 11-13 we will witness meteor showers in the heavens. On August 21st we will see a solar eclipse unlike one unseen in the U.S. in the past 100 years. And on September 23, 2017, we will see an alignment of stars NEVER before aligned in a way that exactly matches the prophecy of Revelation 12:1-2. Wait, there is more! The Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah occurs and is celebrated this year beginning at sunset on 9/20 and ending at sunset on 9/22. While Rosh Hashanah is regarded as the Jewish New Year, it is also considered the “day of judgement” by the Mishnah (a Jewish interpretation of the Torah). Why is this significant? Two reasons. First, as a New Year this particular one ushers in 2018 (in the Gregorian calendar) which marks the beginning of the 70th year of the modern existence of the nation of Israel (remember, they declared their independence on May 14, 1948). As you know, seventy is the Biblical age of a generation. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, if you reread my post on The 9th of Av – History or Prophecy? you will see how the Jewish calendar works. On the Jewish calendar, Rosh Hashanah ENDs at sunset on 9/22/17 and 9/23/17 BEGINS at sunset. The never before celestial make-up prophesied in Revelation 12 is on 9/23/17! Is God warning us about His coming judgement on THAT day? I don’t know. Is He talking to us through the Bible and telling us there will be signs in the heaven? YES!!! “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”
To repeat myself, no one knows when Christ will return: “But of that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Take heed, WATCH (capitals mine) and pray; for you do not know when the time is.” – Mark 13:32-33. Jesus told us to watch and God told us to watch for signs in the heavens. Over the next 5-6 weeks, we are going to see a LOT in the heavens!
As always, I am comforted that God has seen to tell us what will be and for us to be watchful as we see those things told to us in the Bible which will happen in the Last Days. That way, unlike the unbelievers, we are not caught off guard and can lift up our heads because we can know with certainty by believing in Christ and asking for forgiveness of our sins, we WILL NOT have to experience the horrible things which will hit the world in the Last Days. Knowing this, we are all encouraged by God to “…comfort one another with these words.”
