“And he said unto them, These are he words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, AND IN THE PSALMS (capitals mine) concerning me.“
Luke 24:44
Few people, even those who read and study the Book of Psalms in the Holy Bible, view it as a source of prophecies. Written by David and others over 3,000 years ago it is believed to be approximately 10% prophetic. If you compare that to the books of Isaiah (59%), Ezekiel (65%), Daniel (45%), and of course, Revelation (95%) it is easy to understand why the Book of Psalms may be the least understood prophetic book in the Bible.
As I previously wrote about this (Prophecies in the Book of Psalms? Really???), there have been numerous books written by Bible scholars highlighting many of the prophecies in the Psalms fulfilled and those yet to come. Personally, I became aware of these in 1991 when I read J.R. Church’s Hidden Prophecies in the Psalms, which described his surprise, like mine, that there were many prophecies regarding the future of the Jews and their homeland of Israel.
Recently, I was blessed to come in contact through this blog with Sarah Rae, who has written the most comprehensive study of the prophecies in the Book of Psalms. I strongly recommend her newest edition of Psalms Parallels, Modern History Hidden in the Psalms. It has been updated to include 2024! In it she gives a chapter-by-chapter explanation from 1900 through 2024. Without giving away her thoughtful examination of all the events of the last 124 years, let it suffice to tell you the Book of Psalms is the nineteenth Book of the Bible, and she clearly defines how the events of the 1st chapter correspond to Jewish history in 1901, the 2nd chapter corresponds to 1902, etc. etc. It is definitely worth the read, and it is available today at Barnes and Noble.
Getting back to the reason for this post, with the current events we have seen of October 7, 2023, 2024 and 2025, you only have to read Psalm 123, 124, 125 and 126 to see what is currently happening and potentially will happen in Israel and Gaza.
2023
“Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt. Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.”
Psalm 123:3-4
2024
“If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us: Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us: Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul: Then the proud waters had gone over our soul. Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth. Our soul escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.”
Psalm 124:2-8
2025
“For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous: lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity. Do good, O LORD, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts. As for such turn aside unto their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity: BUT PEACE SHALL BE UPON ISRAEL (capitals mine).”
Psalm 125:3-5
2026
“When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, THE LORD HATH DONE GREAT THINGS FOR THEM (capitals mine); whereof we are glad. The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. Turn again our captivity O LORD, as the streams in the south. They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”
Psalm 126
Basically, on October 7, 2023, Israel was attacked by Hamas from Gaza. This led to further additional attacks by Hezbollah out of Lebanon, the Houthis out of Yemen, and even by the Iranians. Throughout 2023 and 2024 there were global antisemitic riots and protests which were portrayed by the media as unjust “genocide” on the Palestinians, who overwhelmingly support Hamas and their attack of October 7th. Even though once again Israel was attacked by much larger forces, God stepped in and protected the Jews and their God given country. With the support of the current U.S. administration, Israel was given the weapons and go-ahead to destroy the terrorists, their weapons and their leaders. According to Psalm 124 the Jews recognized the involvement by the Most High!
Without getting ahead of myself, Psalms 125 and 126 definitely appear peace is coming, and the captives will be returned. Obviously, I don’t know God’s ultimate Plan for this war, but I do know He does nothing without telling us beforehand what He will do:
“Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He.”
John 13:19
It is so comforting to know that God gave us His Word and has told us beforehand what to expect in these Last Days. All we must do is read the Bible knowing that God wants us to understand His Plan for us and for the world. If we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, acknowledge He died in our place for ALL our sins and ask for His forgiveness, we will spend eternity with Him in Heaven. That is SO comforting to know and all we must do, as instructed by Jesus Himself, is to “…therefore comfort one another with these words.” Amen!
May God Bless and Comfort you as we continue to see His Plan fulfilled right before us as Promised!
