Mary did you know/ by Sanam band

“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”

Matthew 1:21

As we officially enter the post-Thanksgiving/pre-Christmas holiday season, I was reminded of what Mary must have gone through after being told by the angel of God that she had been selected to give the virgin birth to the long-awaited Messiah. Nowhere have I seen or heard a better answer to some of her potential questions than in the above video of “Mary, Did you Know?” It has easily become one of my all-time favorites!

I know you may have heard it many times before by various artists. You probably, however, have never heard it sung by Sanam, a Hindu Indian band. Like so many other music videos I have posted over the years, this particular rendition has become one of my favorite Christmas songs. Not just because of the message given to Mary when she was told she would become pregnant, even though she was still a very young virgin who would give birth to the Savior of the world. The birth of Jesus Christ as prophesied for hundreds of years fulfilled exactly what the Bible said He would do for us. As Christians, THIS is the most important message we have ever received.

But one of the things that struck me as I listened to this song was that it was being sung in India by a Hindu band! That also fulfilled a prophecy Jesus made while delivering the Olivet Discourse to a few of His disciples about what to expect in the Last Days. They specifically asked him what the signs of the End Times would be. If you recall, He told them a lot of things that must first happen, but He saved one critical event to disclose what would be THE END:

“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in “…ALL THE WORLD FOR A WITNESS UNTO ALL NATIONS; AND THEN SHALL THE END COME (capitals mine).”

Matthew 24:14

It is estimated today there are nearly 70 million Christians in India, far more than are in the UK, but for a country of 1.4 billion, that is a relatively small number. However, because His Word has reached and been preached in this majority Hindu land should tell us we are in fact living in the Last Days when the promises made to Mary are coming true TODAY. The End Times are here, and we must all accept His Gift of Salvation before it is too late. Acknowledge Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins as THE sacrificial lamb, was buried and rose again. Repent of your sins and ask for forgiveness and you will enjoy eternity with Him in Heaven. In these tough times, that is so comforting. So, please do what he asked us all to do, and that is to “…therefore comfort one another with these words.”

May God Bless you as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Merry Christmas!

My favorite song year round. Lyrics by Mark Lowry, music 🎶 by Buddy Green. The music is almost haunting. All young girls in that day prayed to be “the one” to carry the messiah. Yes, Mary knew, and this is why she could complete such a task with so much humility.

Truly one of my favorite Christmas songs, too. I have also heard it done live by Mark Lowry, the songwriter. What an honor Mary was given… And what a calling…
