“And the Lord God commanded the man (Adam), saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”
Genesis 2:16-17
We all know the Book of Genesis story of Creation very well. In six days God created everything, the earth, the heavens, light and dark, animals, plants and human beings, who He made in His image. God placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden with the plan they would live forever in a close relationship with Him. While God created them sin free in His image, He also gave them free choice. They had the ability to go against His will BUT, if they did, they would no longer live forever but would be separated from Him because of their sin and would “…surely die.” This doesn’t say they would die immediately but rather would face the eventuality of death, both physical as well as spiritual. God is without sin and cannot abide with sinful man.
I have a number of TV programs I watch weekly to gain different perspectives on various prophetic events. A couple of weeks ago I was watching End of the Age with Dave Robbins and he made an observation that totally caught me off guard! His comments about the reason why Jesus had to physically die for our sins in order to regain our ability to spend eternity with Him in Heaven was something I had never heard before and it was truly eye-opening!
“I (Jesus) am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the KEYS (capitals mine) of hell and of death.”
Revelation 1:18
As a Christian we have all been taught that by faith only can we accept that Jesus Christ died for our sins and by asking Him to forgive us of those sins, only then can we be saved. Only by belief and faith in Jesus Christ can we be saved! He alone holds the keys to eternal death in hell or eternal life with Him in Heaven. But, if you are like me, you might ask “Why?” Why did Jesus have to die for our sins? I understand the Biblical laws of sacrifice but we are here talking about God in human form having to die so we might live. Why couldn’t we just accept He lived a sinless life and by believing in Him we could be saved?
“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he (Jesus) also himself likewise took part of the same ; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”
Hebrews 2:14-15
When Adam and Eve sinned by disobeying God’s commandment of them, God created a law which said “…every man shall be put to death for his own sin.” Deuteronomy 24:16. Since we have all inherited a sinful nature, we are all sinners. But, what about Jesus? He also was born into a sinful world but was sin free and never sinned! His Father was our God, who also cannot sin. Why did He have to die if He never once violated God’s Law?
“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in ALL POINTS (capitals mine) tempted like as we are, YET WITHOUT SIN (capitals mine).”
Hebrews 4:15
Jesus was born without a sinful nature. Yet, Satan on a number of occasions attempted to get Jesus to sin, much in the same way he lied to Eve when he questioned what God had actually told them. He deceived them with his lies. He tried to do the same thing with Jesus! Throughout Matthew chapter 4, Jesus was tempted by Satan to disobey what God had told Him to do. He tempted Jesus to turn the rocks into bread after Jesus had fasted for 40 days. He tried to get Him to throw Himself off the mountain top and have His angels save Him. And finally, he told Jesus if He would just worship him, Satan would grant him power and control over all the kingdoms of this world. Thankfully, Jesus told the devil to go get lost!
“For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.”
Romans 6:14
All of this leads up to one conclusion. Since Jesus would not be tempted by Satan, Satan decided to kill Jesus. Remember, Satan had the power of death in his hands. But he could “legally” only use that power on sinful men. But, Jesus was without sin! So, by Satan getting the Jewish Pharisees to demand Pilate crucify Jesus and give them the sinful prisoner Barabbas in exchange, it was Satan who made God’s Law of death for sin null and void by crucifying an innocent, sin free man. That action forever erased God’s law of death for sin but only IF we ask the One who died for us to forgive us of our sins.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.”
Romans 8:1-2
Each and every one of us was created in God’s image and therefore we all have the freedom of choice. We can decide to live a sinful life without the sacrifice Jesus made on our behalf OR we can accept His Gift of Pardon so our sins will be forgiven and we can then enter Heaven and spend eternity with Him there. It is strictly our choice to make. And the consequences of that choice remain the same:
“Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: THE SOUL THAT SINNETH, IT SHALL DIE (capitals mine).”
Ezekiel 18:4
When I watched Dave Robbins show, I truly was taken back by the fact that it was Satan who killed Jesus. While I believe God sent Jesus to die as a sacrificial Lamb for our sins, it was Satan who actually killed Him. I doubt Satan even realized what he was doing then and for 3 days there was probably a big party between Satan and his demons. They had killed the Son of God! When Jesus came back to life on the third day, something no one had ever done before in history, Satan probably realized God lived by His Law but Satan still enforced his own power, mistakenly killing an innocent and sin free man. I am sure he regrets it to this day! But I don’t! Only through Jesus’s Death and Resurrection are we now capable of living forever in Heaven. Because our sins have been forgiven when we acknowledge Jesus as our ONLY Lord and Savior and ask Him for forgiveness, we should all take comfort in knowing God never lies and He is true to His Word. In God’s eyes we become sin free when we acknowledge Jesus died for our sins and we ask for forgiveness. Then we are no longer under the sentence of death like those who disobey God. If you agree with me that this is very comforting, please share this message with others so we can do what we have all been instructed to do and that is to “…therefore comfort one another with these words.”
Time is running short until we will see Jesus coming in the clouds for His Bride, His Believers. May God Bless each and every one of you as we fulfill His request of us.
I do except Jesus as my Lord and Savior, and ask him into my life and forgive me of my sin, I Believe and confess before all that he died and raised again for me. Amen n Amen.
The Church has been remiss and has turned from teaching the reality of Satan, his demons and Hell. This is thought provoking. Indeed the battle , though manifest on Earth, is fought in heavenly realms. Powers and Principalities.
Satan killed Jesus but the victory is Our Lord and King Jesus Yeshua’s! Amen
Awesome commentary. Well thought out conclusions,
Amen and Amen
Thanks for comfort mail
