Liar! Liar! Pants on Fire!

“Let no man deceive (lie to) you by any means for that day (the day of Jesus’s Return) shall not come, except there come a falling away first (rejection of God’s message)

2 Thessalonians 2:3

You know when we try to explain the many things prophesied in the Bible to happen regarding the terrible times just before the Second Coming of Jesus Christ at the conclusion of the seven year Tribulation period, most people tend to think of nuclear wars, earthquakes, pestilences, a one world government, a one world religion, etc. Actually, when Jesus sat upon the Mount of Olives after telling people about the coming end of this world, He was confronted by a few of His disciples who wanted to know exactly what would be those signs of the Last Days. While He later described the coming increase in wars, famines, earthquakes, etc. which would be worse than anything the world had ever seen, He actually started out by telling them FIRST to be very careful, because deception (lying) would increase dramatically during the Last Days in an effort to change His Message of Salvation. He even previously mentioned it as the eighth Commandment.

“Thou shalt not bear false witness (lie) against thy neighbor.”

Exodus 20:16

When preachers in the “Christian” Church alter His Message, this is absolutely lying to the members of their church. By lying about what the Holy Bible says, this will cause a falling away or apostasy in the Church as He prophesied above. This was the very FIRST THING Jesus alluded to as a sign of the Last Days to be watchful for. Do people lie today? Has lying increased substantially in the past few decades? Does the Bible tell us we can earn our way into Heaven? Does it say abortion or gay marriage is acceptable? Does it say you don’t need to believe in Jesus to be saved? Do they tell us all people will be going to Heaven?

“I said in my haste, All men are liars.”

Psalm 116:11

Let me be clear. All of us, myself included have lied! Some might brush it off saying it was only “a little white lie”. If as a child your mother asked you if you were playing with someone down the street who she told you not to play with and you said you had not, even though you had, that was not a “little white lie”, it is a lie. If you tell family you tithe, when you only give 5% of your income to the church, that too is not a “little white lie’, it is a lie! Do any of us really believe God will brush off “little white lies” and only condemn those who tell REALLY bad lies like not stealing a car when they did? Psalm 116 above says ALL MEN (yes, and women too) ARE LIARS! Since lying is a sin and we know the “…wages of sin are death”, we have been instructed by God’s Holy Word to repent of our sins and ask for forgiveness AND also to turn away from sin. In other words, we are told to not sin anymore. If we simply continue to sin and then ask for forgiveness every time we knowingly sin, Jesus will ask us to depart, because he didn’t know us.

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from unrighteousness.”

1 John 1:8-9

Jesus is just! He will forgive us IF we truly repent of our sins and then ask Him for help to make sure we don’t continue in our sinful ways. ONLY through faith in Jesus can we overcome our sinful ways and eventually spend eternity with Him in Heaven.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Romans 6:23

I am old enough to remember a time when lying was a sin and most people recognized it wasn’t right to knowingly and repeatedly lie. But look at the changes we have seen in just the past few years. Social media has allowed many to tell lies anonymously. We can reach out to dozens, thousands or millions with statements we know to be false but which matches our political, cultural or religious views. Not only that but now you can tell the TRUTH and social media may ban you saying what you are saying is a lie! When you look at social media, main stream media news reports, politicians or business leaders I am sure many of you will agree with me that it is becoming exceedingly difficult to believe anything you see, read, or hear. Today, whether it be COVID-19 or the recent election results, does anyone believe what they see, hear or read is 100% accurate? But, what if someone actually told us the Truth in the midst of all the lies, would we believe it?

“But now ye seek to kill me (Jesus), a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of (from) God: this did not Abraham. Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they (the Pharisees) to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do you not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and ABODE NOT IN THE TRUTH (capitals mine), because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I (Jesus) tell you the truth, ye believe me not.”

John 8:40-45

Hopefully you will agree with me that ONLY the Word of God tells us the absolute Truth. There is no other Book in the history of the world that claims to be God’s Word. This does not mean every preacher is lying to us when they tell us things in the Bible but it is up to each of us to study His Word to verify everything said and to put it in context with the greater Message from God. If any preacher tells you one thing that cannot be verified and endorsed by the Bible, he is lying to you.

“God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.”

Romans 3:4

Unfortunately, many people today can sit in church on Sunday (or Saturday) morning and don’t get this point. Because they are in church DOES NOT mean they are being told the truth. Through laziness or simply willing to be deceived by people claiming to be speaking God’s Word but adding in their own personal preferences which have zero basis in the Bible, they willingly may be accepting false teaching and doctrine. If they are OK with that, God will allow them to be deceived with a strong delusion because that is what they are willing to accept.

“And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God SHALL SEND THEM A STRONG DELUSION (capitals mine), that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”

2 Thessalonians 2:10-12

Times are getting worse as most of us believe. We see so much of this happening before our very eyes but lying is different. We may trust our family, our friends, are preacher, our politicians but if they lie to us, it can be done in such a small, but growing way, we may simply accept what we are being told without recognizing this is exactly what the Bible has told us would be happening.

“But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.”

2 Timothy 3:13

So, why would I ever write an article called “Liars! Liars! Pants on Fire!”? Simply put, if you believe things, you are being told that are false and perhaps even repeat those as if they are the Truth and don’t ask for forgiveness of your sins, you will not only join those in the Lake of Fire (hell) and it won’t be just with murderers, sorcerers, idolators and whoremongers. You will be with all other unrepentant liars. And, it won’t just be your pants that are on fire. YOU will be on fire!

“But the fearful and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolators, AND ALL LIARS (capitals mine), shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone (hell): which is the second death.”

Revelation 21:8

In God’s Mercy and Grace, He has given us a pardon of our sins and hope for our eternal time in Heaven. He gave us Jesus Christ as THE Sacrifice for our sins. All we must do is believe in Him, repent, and accept His Pardon for our sins. Remember, this was “…written aforetime (beforehand)for our learning.”

“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”

Romans 15:4

It would be very scary to know what waits for us in hell without Jesus’s death and resurrection. But in His death for us not only do we have the hope and comfort of knowing we will spend eternity in Heaven with Him but He also will give us the patience to await His soon coming Return. I find these words to be very comforting and wanted to pass this along to you in the same way He has told us to “…therefore comfort one another with these words.” Again, not my words, His Word!

And, you know what? I am not lying when I tell you to trust the Bible as we anxiously long to see and meet up with our Lord and Savior in the clouds.

May God Bless you!
